Heart disease is a condition commonly found in companion animals. Some pets with heart disease will exhibit symptoms such as coughing, difficulty breathing, exercise intolerance, or fainting. Other pets might not show symptoms, but may have heart murmurs or irregular heart beats, which could be detected by your veterinarian. Thankfully, with early diagnosis and an appropriate treatment protocol, this disease can be successfully managed.
At Alpine View Veterinary Hospital, we are pleased to work with our board certified cardiologist, Dr. Bryan Maran, who employs the latest in advanced cardiological technology. This allows us to diagnose and manage heart disease, providing our patients with the best chance of living a long, fulfilling life.
Dr. Maran and his team of board certified cardiologists perform echocardiograms (echos) in our clinic. Echos are a key non- invasive diagnostic tool, used to identify and manage several types of heart problems including:
- An enlarged heart or thick ventricles
- Weakened heart muscles
- Problems with heart valves
- Heart defects
- Blood clots or tumors
Cardiology appointments are scheduled as a drop off appointment on specific days during the month. Patients are asked to arrive by 7:45am for this specialty appointment. No diet restrictions are needed for this particular procedure. After the echo has been performed, owners are notified that their pet is ready to be picked up. Our doctors contact clients directly to review the cardiology report and to make next step recommendations.
